Crazy Baker was started in 2009 by Sophie Grey. Sophie had been running an events catering business and in the 2007/8 recession started baking. Her baker friend suggested she take the bread to a local deli and from there the wholesale bakery started. Setting up a bakery in the catering premises and starting with one customer, Sophie made, baked, packed and delivered the first order.
The Crazy Baker name came from Sophie’s husband. She was practising all the breads in her home kitchen and he walked in to a steaming hot kitchen, covered in flour and crates of bread on the kitchen table as she was pulling more loaves of sourdough out of the oven and said, “oh it’s the Crazy Baker.”
Sophie joined forces with head baker Karen Street in 2010 and Crazy Baker has grown to become one of London’s leading wholesale artisan bakeries, supplying more than 250 customers across the city with fresh bread and baked goods 365 days a year. We hand-bake everything — sourdoughs, everyday bread, ciabatta and viennoiserie — as well as cakes, cookies, brownies and more. We also have a separate site dedicated to our gluten free products.
In September 2025 we moved into our new wholesale bakery at The Old Torpedo Factory, Park Royal in London, and we’re now well settled into the new space — giving us the capacity to keep growing and serving London’s cafés, restaurants, delis and food businesses with freshly baked bread and pastries every day.
